Bird Watching Tour in Bhutan
Bhutan
possesses large areas of intact forests in its land, one of the
highest in the world.
Bhutan has an
outstanding wealth of birds. The Kingdom hosts a
stunning 770
species found, including many that are globally threatened. For
bird watchers, Bhutan is a dream. The rich diversity of Bhutan’s
bird species is mainly due to its moist climate, wide altitude
range, low population density, vast forest cover, and the
government’s strict conservation policy.
We hope that
birdwatchers will record their own observations, thus expanding our
knowledge of the country’s birds and furthering the conservation of
threatened species. There is so much waiting to be discovered!
This
is a tour to show you both the beauty of this mountain kingdom and
the delights of its fascinating wildlife. The excursion takes you
from beyond Thimphu to Punakha further via Phobjikha to Trongsa and
Zhemgang and to some truly superb birding locations. Enjoy your
walk through oak and rhododendron forests and beneath trees
festooned with lichens, mosses, ferns, and orchids, in search of
such tantalizing delights as several superb pheasants, Cutia,
Scarlet Finch, Fire-tailed Myzornis, and the enormous Rufous-necked
Hornbill.
We time your visits to
seek the greatest diversity of bird life. Spring and autumn remains
part of the dry season, Bhutan’s resident birds will be in full song
(with a great chorus of barbets and cuckoos), and many migrants will
be heading north through the mountains en route to Tibet and beyond. |
